Restaurants in Little Falls, Minnesota: Where to Eat

A compact downtown, a farm-to-table institution in an old hamburger shop, classic drive-ins, and bars that turn out good pizza. A guide to eating well in a small river town.

Where should you eat in Little Falls?

Start downtown. A.T. The Black & White is the standout — a farm-to-table American restaurant in a 1931 building — and the surrounding historic district holds cafes, bars, and quick classics within a short walk. For current hours and what is open, check the Visit Little Falls dining directory before you go.

Downtown is the dining room

Little Falls keeps most of its restaurants where it keeps most of its life: the downtown historic district, along and around Broadway and 1st Street. That is the practical advantage of a small town — you can park once and walk to dinner, a drink, and dessert. It also means the dining scene is best understood as a neighborhood rather than a list.

The institution: A.T. The Black & White

If Little Falls has a signature restaurant, it is this one, at 116 1st Street SE. The building started in 1931 as The Black and White Hamburger Shop, a White Castle–style diner, and the restaurant leans into that history while doing something more ambitious with it. The kitchen works with local farms for a farm-to-table American menu — appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and dinner entrees — and the bar pours local craft beer and a deep list of wines by the glass. It is the closest thing the town has to a special-occasion room that still feels like the town.

Cafes, casual, and quick classics

Around the institution sits the everyday. Downtown and nearby you will find casual cafes and burrito counters for lunch, bars that put out respectable pizza, and the kind of classic drive-in that a Minnesota town of this age tends to keep. Names on the current local roster include spots like Ciao Thyme by the historic theater, West Side Cafe, Christensen's Bar for pizza, Tavern on First, and a longtime drive-in for a warm-weather burger and malt. Which of these fits depends on the day and the appetite — the tourism directory below keeps the live list.

Check before you go

Restaurants open, close, and change hours — more than any other kind of local business. This guide points you at the scene and the one true landmark; for who is open right now, current hours, and menus, use the Visit Little Falls food & drink pages or call ahead. We deliberately do not print hours or prices here, because they would be wrong by the time you read them.

Eating on event weekends

Two weekends a year, the food comes to the street. The Arts & Crafts Fair in September brings hundreds of food vendors downtown, and the June Dam Festival adds food, a beer garden, and a market at Maple Island Park. On those weekends the plan is simple: graze.

Make a day of downtown

A meal pairs naturally with the rest of the district — the shops, the museums, and the riverfront at Maple Island Park. For the full picture, see things to do in Little Falls, or start from the Little Falls guide.
